The median home price to income ratio now sits at a record high – 7.78x in the US. At this rate, the average person would need a staggering 8 years to afford a home, even if they saved their entire gross salary. This is a stark contrast to 20 years ago, when the ratio was a much lower 4.2x, and even the 2008 housing crash only pushed it slightly above 7x.
